Small skull studies

An oil painting of a human skullHere's a couple quick little skull studies I did a week ago for something different..

The first one is 8x10" oil on linen - very nice surface to paint on!

The second is oil on Hungarian hemp this time hence the rougher texture - it creates some problems with detail but I loved the roughness and painterly feeling it gave. Very happy with both! A painting of a human skull

Quick small Onion paintings

Here's a couple small still life pieces I did on brown onions and garlic last week, put em up on ebay & sold already, maybe I should do more...

Pretty creative titles hey! The timber surface (after being primed) was interesting to paint on - smooth surface allowed the brush to slide but the slightly apparent random grain texture also grabbed the paint.

Just to see if I can do it!
Here's some progress shots on the big horse painting I've been working on in the studio

1.25m x 1.65m, oils on linen

First the red oxide tint to the linen, then I begun working up the muscle shapes and defining the form.

After that the fun begins - hours of painting through the sheen on the coat.

Finally the background is in and it's time to let it dry before multiple glazing coats. It looks finished but this is only half way!

Progress shots on three new nightscapes

Three new small nightscapes on the go, for an upcoming show in September (exact dates to be decided).

All of these are 40x30cm, oils on linen.

There's atleast one more pass on all three, maybe a bit more tweaking here and there.
More to come...

Here's three little paintings I did last night in a row of the good old classic lego spacemen!
All are oils on triple-primed Tasmanian oak, around 25cm tall each, a nice size to work all quick and painterly.
They're all up for sale on ebay, framed and ready to go...
